History:

Smith Custom Builders was founded by Douglas (Doug) E. Smith who has been an excellent, and creative/artistic wood craftsman his entire life. Throughout his life he worked jobs that encompassed all facets of the construction industry enabling him to understand first hand the dynamics that make up the "whole" of a construction project. Doug's aptitude for construction, led him to be a top 1% graduate from the Universal Technical Institute in the field of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and solar energy. While working in the air conditioning field in the late 80's, Doug took on side jobs doing small remodeling projects and room additions; this, along with his satisfied client's referrals and having many friends and acquaintances in the construction business is how Smith Custom Builders came to be. Doug is a GMB (Graduate Master Builder) and CGR (Certified Graduate Remodelor).

Smith Custom Builders has grown to include large-scale projects such as New Homes, Speculative Homes, Remodels, Room Additions and Historical Restorations/Preservations.

Douglas has put together a family of talented and skilled professionals who complete the Smith Custom Builders team, expertly handling large scale construction projects in the Greater Houston and surrounding areas. Douglas extends a thank you to all who continue to make Smith Custom Builders the success it is today.

Communication:

Each of our clients will have their own project manager that will be assigned to their project.

From the introductory phase, through the bidding process, and pre-construction meetings, Doug feels it is important to educate our clients on the process of construction, "an informed client is a happy client". Smith Custom Builders continues this practice of including the client in the creative process throughout the duration of the construction of their home by scheduling walk-throughs at key phases to ensure complete satisfaction. The lines of communication are always open.

Smith Custom Builders' magnificent speculative (spec) homes are designed by Kent & Kent, engineered by The Interfield Group, with interiors designed by Charlotte's Web Designs
Call or send us an email for more information on our spec homes.

In addition to Smith Custom Builders’ spec homes, we are also contracted by individuals, investment firms, and other companies for their personal investment of speculative homes to sell. We are happy to use your designers and/or architects for such ventures. We will also display these homes for sale on our website.

Home & Interior Designs:

At Smith Custom Builders we are "custom builders" in the traditional sense of that phrase, meaning that each home, room addition, remodel, and restoration that we complete differs in design from one another. Since we don't replicate our projects, each blueprint must be specially analyzed and interpreted by our project development department to ensure accurate job costing and to plan for proper execution and scheduling of the project.

Doug enjoys sharing his knowledge of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) with other builders and remodelers by conducting seminars at the GHBA and teaching Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) classes on HVAC for the Home Builders Institute -- the nation's leading source for education and training programs serving the home building industry.
